This July, the global Fab Lab community will gather again in Boston for FAB26, celebrating 25 years of the Fab Lab Network with a week of keynotes, workshops, working groups, and collaborative making. As always, Fab Lab Barcelona will actively contribute to conversations about education, digital fabrication, distributed innovation, and emerging technologies.
Our team will lead and participate in a series of activities throughout the conference, sharing projects, methodologies, and experiences developed in Barcelona.
Type: Working Group
Facilitator: Santiago Fuentemilla
This working group brings together educators, researchers, and Fab Lab practitioners to explore the future of distributed learning and educational innovation across the global Fab Lab network. Participants will exchange ideas, share best practices, and collaborate on strengthening learning initiatives that empower communities through digital fabrication.
Type: Working Group
Facilitator: Luciana Asinari
This collaborative session focuses on the future of Academany educational platform and its growing ecosystem of distributed programs. Participants will discuss new opportunities for global collaboration, lifelong learning, and the expansion of access to hands-on education that connects makers, educators, and innovators worldwide.
Type: Hands-on Workshop
Facilitator: Julia Leirado
In this hands-on workshop, participants will explore the intersection of e-textiles and STEAM education using the Sew:bit platform and micro:bit technology. Through practical activities, attendees will learn how wearable electronics and digital fabrication can create engaging, accessible learning experiences for students of all ages.
Type: Hands-on Workshop
Facilitator: Alexandre Dubor
This interactive workshop explores new ways of collaborating with robotic fabrication systems through human gesture and movement. Participants will experiment with intuitive human-robot interaction, discovering how robotics can become a creative partner in digital fabrication while expanding possibilities for craftsmanship and design.
Type: Hands-on Workshop
Facilitator: Julia Leirado
In this interactive workshop, participants will build and program cable-driven robotic systems while exploring the fundamentals of motion, automation, and digital fabrication. Designed for makers and educators alike, the session demonstrates how accessible robotics can become a powerful tool for creative learning and STEAM education.
Type: Hands-on Workshop
Facilitator: Damián Arezzo Casanova
This hands-on workshop introduces participants to Woody, a sustainable bio-based material made from sawdust and starch. Attendees will experiment with transforming wood waste into functional objects, exploring circular design principles, biomaterials, and low-impact manufacturing techniques that promote more sustainable fabrication practices.
Beyond these featured activities, Fab Lab Barcelona’s work is deeply embedded in many of the themes shaping FAB26: educational innovation, distributed manufacturing, sustainable futures, digital craftsmanship, and community-led technological development. The conference provides an opportunity to connect with makers, researchers, educators, and innovators from around the world while sharing insights from initiatives our local and broader research ecosystem.
