Fab Academy: Molding and Casting

Join Fab Academy students as they master the process in just a week

Fab Academy is a fast-paced educational program that focuses on personal fabrication. Students master rapid prototyping by learning how to work with a new machine/concept each week, resulting in a personal portfolio of technical accomplishments. In the Fab Academy week devoted to molding and casting, students learn the ins and outs of the process in its theoretical and practical aspects.

Molding and casting is a manufacturing process in which a liquid material is typically poured into a mold, containing a hollow cavity of the desired shape, and then allowed to solidify. The solidified part is also known as casting, which is ejected or broken from the mold to complete the process.

In this blogpost, we show you what a molding and casting process looks like by highlighting the project Tiny Town, a city-building mosaic game of Lavapiés neighborhood in Madrid. The project is created by Daniel Mateos, a student at the Fab Academy Barcelona node.
