MDEFest is a not-for-profit event with the goal of increasing futures’ literacy, powering collective power of creatives, and raising awareness about the climate and environmental urgency.

MDEFest 2024 is the 4th edition of the festival organized by the Master in Design for Emergent Futures, celebrating the final projects of the MDEF students. The event will take place between the 10th and the 12th of June 2024, in different locations in Barcelona. The festival activities, ranging from workshops and panels to interactive installations and exhibitions, aim to promote future literacy, empower the collective force of creatives, and create greater consciousness about the pressing urgency of the climate and social crisis.

Nature’s intelligence and technological prowess, sustainable energy generation and low-tech methods, surveillance and wearable technology, MDEFest 2024 will address radical issues, divided into three thematic categories. 

  • Alquimia – revolves around a dynamic synergy between nature’s intelligence and technological prowess, fostering creativity, sustainability, and a deeper appreciation for the interconnectedness of all agents;
  • ACT: Actively Creating Tomorrow – converges around the core theme of sustainable energy generation and storage using accessible, low-tech methods readily available in households; 
  • {Un}seen Exposures – a navigation between the intersections of wearable technology, surveillance and design, particularly in the context of gender-based violence.
