Fab Lab Barcelona as a partner of Reservist is hosting an online chat series, where guests share their personal experiences of responding to moments of crisis. The aim is to collaboratively work on a shared vision, align values, and develop best practices.

On April 20th from 11:00 – 12:00, we are welcoming Omar El-Safty. He is an entrepreneur who believes in the Maker Movement. He’s been supporting Fab Lab Egypt since day 1, as he started working as General Manager. Omar is also a Fab Academy Graduate which is a digital fabrication diploma provided by Center of Bits & Atom – MIT. He has been one of the team who worked on establishing STEM Schools in Egypt Funded by the USAID. He’s also one of the first Egyptian Alumni who participated in the IVLP:Maker Movement program which is sponsored by the U.S. Embassy. One of his latest achievements is leading Fab Lab Egypt’s team in organizing the first Maker Faire in Egypt and the Arab world – Maker Faire Cairo as the Event Director. In 2016, Omar and Fab Lab Egypt’s Co-founder launched San3a Tech. San3a Tech is a social enterprise, kicked off by young Egyptians with the goal of democratizing technical innovation and personalized manufacturing, and building a platform to empower the community of makers and innovators.

Omar Elsafty is also involved in the ecosystem of the mAkE project – African European Maker Innovation Ecosystem.

The Resilient Makers Stories are part of the European project Reservist that aims to establish a network of ‘reservist cells’, resilient networks that can be activated within 48hrs to switch to manufacturing medical products and services that are spiking in demand. Reservist has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 101016041.
