Fab Lab Barcelona, part of the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia, is seeking a Creative Rapid Prototyping Expert. Fab Lab Barcelona supports different educational and research programs related to the multiple scales of the human habitat and engages in European research across numerous lines of enquiry, including design, distributed manufacturing, cities and culture.

Main Responsibilities:
- Bridging Digital and Physical Realms: Translate conceptual designs into tangible prototypes by harnessing a wide range of digital fabrication tools and techniques, merging the virtual and physical worlds.
- Educational Outreach: Engage with educational initiatives at Fab Lab Barcelona and mentor the next generation of designers and technologists. Willingness to engage with and support students, demonstrating a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment; consolidate knowledge;, and unify learning experiences across multiple learning programs
- Collaborative Innovation: Join a team culture of shared exploration and experimentation, collaborating with fellow innovators to develop novel approaches that contribute to the collective open knowledge of the Fab Lab community.
- Creative Problem-Solving: Approach complex challenges with a blend of creative thinking and technical know-how, devising innovative solutions that leverage your understanding of digital fabrication and rapid prototyping.
- Technological Exploration: Embark on explorations into emerging technologies, experimenting with interactive design, responsive environments, and other cutting-edge techniques to continuously expand your skill set.
- Research and Development: Stay at the forefront of technological advancements by continuously researching and experimenting with the latest digital fabrication and rapid prototyping methods, ensuring our work remains at the cutting edge of innovation.
Competences (Experience, Knowledge and Skills):
- Previous workshop environment experience (Fab Labs, Makerspaces)
- Rapid prototyping skills both in hardware (CAD/CAM, 3D printing, PCB design, etc) and software (Arduino, Web development, Basic Python, etc)
- Commitment to open source values. Previous experience in open projects highlighting community contributions and free licences is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organisational and time management skills with an ability to prioritise
- Must be a motivated self-starter
- Strong problem-solving skills and analytical abilities
- Fab Academy or other Academany degree is a bonus
Specific Requirements:
- A valid work permit for Spain
- Fluent in English and Spanish; Catalan is a plus – other languages are a bonus
- Higher education degree.

CONTRACT DETAILS
- Full-Time position (40h week, from Monday to Friday) based in Barcelona at Fab Lab Barcelona HQ (Carrer de Pujades, 102).
- Duration: from Octubre 2024 to June 2025

- Gross Salary: 22-25K per annum, negotiable based on experience
