MAKING TO LEARN, IMAGING GLOBALLY.
Weaving the educational network for a meaningful learning that faces the challenges of the future with the head, the heart and the hands.

The Challenge

To promote a process of pedagogical innovation of learning practices that has a positive impact on the knowledge, skills and competences of students, the teaching community and their immediate environment in a regional level (Catalonia).

Our Solution

Accompany key educational stakeholders to integrate the maker-centered learning methodology process of creating projects which connect the curriculum with the lives of the learners, having a positive impact on their communities.

Type of Project

Advanced innovation project led by CESIRE of the Department of Education of the Generalitat de Catalunya financed with European funds (MRR).

Project Outputs/Applied Technologies

Network of schools, teachers, organizations and expert makers.

The Project

FAIG is a 4 years advanced innovation project which tries to weave the educational network for a meaningful learning that faces the challenges of the future with the head, the heart and the hands.

Led by CESIRE with the support of Fab Lab Barcelona in the design, conceptualization of the project and the training and support of the driving team, FAIG is designed under these 4 pillars:

  1. Education and learning: Learning in community with heart, head and hands.
  2. Emerging futures: Innovation and research for project growth. Use technology to respond to socially relevant problems and challenges.
  3. Imagination: Imagining during the creation process. Imagining a better world and working to make it a reality.
  4. Global: Connecting learning with life and the immediate environment, finding a place in the world and acting for the common good. Prioritize the globalized approach to project-based learning.

FAIG seeks to have an impact on the student, the school and the Catalan education system as a whole.

Strategic objectives in the educational system:

  • Consolidate learning linked to the ABP-Maker model in participating schools.
  • Have reference educational centers and trainers in ABPMaker, with evidence of educational success.
  • To have CESIRE as a center specialized in teacher training around PBL-Maker practices.
  • Promote the development of teaching digital competence and the design of the school’s digital strategy.
  • Promote digital equity, the improvement of the institutional image and the external projection of the participating centers.

Objectives of impact in the School:

  • Promote a digital creation/maker space open to the community.
  • Consolidate a pedagogical line around learning with meaning through the PBL and the Maker Space.
  • Promote collaboration within the community and links with reference technological entities.
  • Innovate learning practices.
  • Enrich, make unique and promote the Educational Project, improving the institutional image of the center.
  • To empower the educational community, increasing the motivation, confidence, relational involvement of the people involved.

Objectives of impact on educational results:

  • Learning with meaning, developing the ability to invent and create to influence the immediate environment.
  • Develop Basic Education skills, as well as STEAM and digital exit profiles.
  • Develop as digital creators and not just consumers.
  • Increase motivation, involvement and the significance of the learning process itself.
  • Promote the discovery of technological, scientific and artistic vocations, especially among girls.
  • Build their own identity as people who are respectful and committed to themselves and the community.

Our Contribution

Our main contribution to the project is summarized in three key areas:

  • Conceptualization, co-design and co-creation of the overall project strategy during the 4 years of the project, providing a systemic view and previous experience in research projects and support to educational communities.
  • Engaging, training and accompanying CESIRE technical driving team and the more than 60 teaching guides of the participating centers in active learning projects, maker-centered learning methodology and digital fabrication knowledge.
  • Facilitating the creation and revitalization of the network of participating FAIG centers and the rest of the educational community.

Finally, we also contribute our view of the maker space as enabler of meaningful learning. It’s:

Space to learn with meaning:

  • Be inspired by the creations of others and cooperate.
  • Create, think, feel.
  • Act and make decisions autonomously.
  • Mobilize and connect knowledge from different areas of knowledge.
  • Be surprised and excited when creating.
  • Get involved in real situations linked to the community.
  • Build your own identity, discover talents and abilities.

Beyond the maker space:

  • To explore the creative possibilities of different technologies and materials.
  • To learn how the world around us works.
  • To materialize ideas and projects.
  • Through personalized learning experiences, guided and freely created, to become autonomous.
