The Project

DAFNE+ project (Decentralized platform for fair creative content distribution empowering creators and communities though new digital distribution models based on digital tokens) funded by the European Commision’s HORIZON program, aims to help digital content creators to find new forms of creation, distribution and monetization of their works of art through blockchain technology.

DAFNE+ will provide new services and tools that allow the creation and co-creation of content in a blockchain in an intuitive and simple way so that artists, creators, makers and designers don’t need to have technical knowledge on blockchains or NFTs. These tools will be compatible with those currently used by content creators in their studios, so that the quality of the works is not affected.

DAFNE+ will promote creator communities through the new decentralized organizations (DAOs) that are forming around digital tokens or NFTs. DAFNE+ will create a DAO in which all the holders of a governance NFT or token will have decision-making power over the rules of the community and the content distribution platform that will be created. DAFNE+’s research will also focus on the definition of new business models through the distribution of content, allowing creators and users to monetize multimedia creations. These new business models will allow the involvement of new actors, considering the needs of the community involved, through the DAO.

That is why, through blockchain technology, smart contracts, NFTs and other digital tokens, DAFNE+ will increase the legal transparency of content creators and artists, offering new forms of royalty distribution and allowing to keep track of the secondary market. This will mean a great advance in the management of intellectual rights, which will allow the creation of new licensing models through these Smart contracts provided by blockchain technology.

Our Contribution

Fab Lab Barcelona at IAAC and the Distributed Design Platform is one of three Case Studies from DAFNE+. We are providing quantitative and qualitative input based on our respective communities needs for the DAFNE+ platform and technological development. The Distributed Design Platform is a distributed creative community of 1600+ novel content creators across making, art and design. Based on the global Fab Lab Network of 35,000+ users, the platform is undertaking research and development into creative alternatives to industrial processes. In the context of DAFNE+, the platform aims to focus on novel content creation, 3D modeling and virtual design and the application of emerging technologies (VR/AR) for design and artistic creation. Artists and designers can take advantage of the tools provided on the DAFNE+ platform to create, distribute and buy original artistic content that can be used for emerging technologies, such as VR/AR applications and games.
